Ideology

At TIMID glass Toronto, we align ourselves with elegant and evocative, clean and uncomplicated glass art.  TIMID produces a line of handmade functional and decorative glass for everyday use in the home, and infuses the same simple beauties and conceptual qualities into public and private installation.  Our aim is to make art accessible to all, both as objects of utility and in a public forum.

TIMID is inherently Canadian with ingenuity in design, a quiet aesthetic and a modest image. We create works that enrich this country’s object culture.

More about us…

Sally McCubbin and Aaron Oussoren, TIMID co-owners, share a love for thoughtful design. The company is born of their intimate understanding of the material and their design ethos.

TIMID’s approach to the glass forming process is influenced by environmental and economic concerns facing the manufacturers and craftspeople of today. Designing to minimize waste material and using energy efficient processes are central to the company’s policy. It is also a TIMID priority to work with Toronto’s small businesses, choosing to support the local economy.

TIMID embraces industrial process in combination with traditional craft practice. The objective is to use glass as a viable medium for innovative yet cost-effective production. The produced designs are chosen for their suitability of purpose, use of material, method of manufacturing, and aesthetics.

We value the charming qualities of the hand-made.
